HELP A MID MICHIGAN HERO

The Vassar area, as well as groups nationwide are rallying to support Staff Stg. Travis Mills, who was injured on April 10 when he stepped on an IED while serving with the 82nd Airborne in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. After undergoing surgery in Germany, Mills arrived at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. where he has had several more surgeries.  Mills is believed to be just the fourth quadruple amputee in U.S. military  history to survive his injuries.

Even in the face of what is most likely the most challenging time in their lives, Travis Mills, his wife Kelsey Mills, and the rest of their family, are facing the future head-on.  Story after story has been told about Travis Mills’ inspiring character. Recently, his wife Kelsey shared how even in terrible pain, Travis is cognizant of those around him and even has apologized to nurses.

The Richville American Legion Post and the Yellow Ribbon Guard are planning a benefit spaghetti dinner on Memorial Day weekend.  There will be a live and silent auction and bake sale as well.  The event is on Sunday, May 27th from 2:00 to 7:00 pm at Richville American Legion Hall on M-46.  Anyone wishing to donate items for the dinner, auction, bake sale should contact Judy Adams at 989-823-2078.

Those wishing to follow Travis and his family during his long journey to recovery can do so at http://www.travismills.org/  The website has an address where donations can be mailed.
